Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) of the Philippines announced today that the BIR has selected Unicenter TNG to manage mission-critical tax processes across the Philippines.

The BIR is the government agency responsible for assessing and collecting tax revenues nationwide. In 1994, BIR embarked on a project to fully computerize its data processing across the Philippines. This project, part of the National IT Plan to computerize major government bodies, was the first and largest of similar projects approved by the Philippine Investment Coordinating Council (ICC), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and funded by the World Bank.

BIR's deployment of Unicenter TNG will encompass end-to-end management of its entire IT environment, including heterogeneous databases, networks, systems and applications. Of utmost importance is administration of the Integrated Tax System (ITS) which integrates and manages 13 mission-critical application systems.

The BIR has four major interconnected sites across the Philippines: the National Revenue Command Centre and three data centres. Located within the four centres are 18 Sun Solaris enterprise systems and about 600 Intel-based NT workstations. Unicenter TNG will manage all the application servers at these command/data centres.
