Burbank forming panel to head up review of city charter, planning. (Politics).


The city of Burbank Burbank, city (1990 pop. 93,643), Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1911. Tourism and the entertainment industry are central to its economy; several motion-picture studios and television headquarters are here. Burbank's aerospace industry collapsed with the end of the Cold War.  is preparing to sort through applications from individuals interested in serving on a new 11-member review panel to oversee the planning process and make recommendations for changes to the city's charter, which has not been significantly altered since the 1980s.

The deadline for applying for a seat on the panel is May 16th and the names of those chosen by the city council to serve on it should be made public sometime in June June: see month. .

Several administrative changes and department name changes were made to the charter in 2001.

And, in April, Burbank voters approved a charter amendment that now requires the city to hold a special election if there is a vacancy VACANCY. A place which is empty. The term is principally applied to cases where an office is not filled.

 replacements for those seats at any time, and, if they could not agree on a candidate, the mayor could make his own appointments, but there was no 16-month cut off.
