Buoy 10 Brew Festival Honors North Coast Fishing Heritage; Second Annual Astoria-Warrenton Event Features Local Brews, Seafood.
WHAT: Excitement is brewing this summer, as Astoria and Warrenton
bring together more than 25 of Oregon's best handcrafted
beers, local food vendors, a small carnival and a variety of
live entertainment during the second annual Buoy 10 Brew
Festival. The event will honor the Columbia River Buoy 10
fishery and its importance to the economic livability of the
North Coast region.
Located at the mouth of the Columbia River, the Buoy 10
fishery produces some of the Northwest's best catches of
Chinook salmon and tuna during its prime season in early
Sept. Attendees to the festival will also have the
opportunity to purchase fresh seafood at local fish
markets, or chow down on crab, shrimp and fish from the
event's food vendors.
Coinciding with the start of fishing season, fishing and
boating enthusiasts can take part in the Catch and Release
Sturgeon Fishing Derby on Saturday, July 8, from 6 a.m. to
3 p.m. and wander through aisles of Northwest vendors
offering fishing gear all weekend long.
WHEN: Friday - Sunday, July 7 - 9, 2006
-- Friday: 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.
-- Saturday: 1 p.m. - 10 p.m.
-- Sunday: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
WHERE: The Buoy 10 Brew Festival will be held outdoors at the
Hammond Mooring Basin in Warrenton, just a short walk from
Fort Stevens State Park. Both Astoria and Warrenton are
located on Oregon's historic North Coast, where the
Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean, 70 miles northwest
of Portland. It is the oldest American settlement west of
the Rockies and has a rich maritime history. Still home to
a working waterfront, Astoria boasts a vibrant community
including art galleries, museums, restaurants, shops,
Victorian homes and the internationally acclaimed Columbia
River Maritime Museum.
COST: Festival admission including a free Buoy 10 Brew Fest
beer mug is $5 for adults 21 and older. Drink tokens cost
$1, each worth a four-ounce beer taste. Admission is free
for those under 21. No one under the age of 21 will be
permitted after 8 p.m.
Thirsty? A special taster's package is available for $20 and
covers admission, a festival mug and 15 tokens.
