Bullying top of agenda for the youth parliament.THE UK Youth Parliament promotes the views and concerns of young people and liaises with councils and the Government to get a better deal for the younger generation. Kirklees UKYP UKYP United Kingdom Youth Parliament has just started the election process for new members, who can be aged 11 to 18. In this column, members of the Kirklees UKYP group - Lydia Hesling, Faheem Shaikh and Joel Lawson - explain more about their activities and the issues they have been tackling.... IN Kirklees this month we made a short film for the Environment Partnership's annual meeting. It showed a fictional view of Kirklees in one hundred years from now and described how the world's environment had got worse. We attempted to show what would happen if attitudes to the environment didn't change. Joel - UKYP member for North Kirklees - even put up with being drenched for the shoot! Another focus this month has been on bullying, as national anti-bullying week Anti-bullying Week (or National anti-bullying week) is an annual UK event which concentrates on the effects of bullying and how to prevent it from happening. The week is supported by about sixty organisations in Britain which make up the Anti-Bullying Alliance. being ran up until last Friday, with a new slogan 'Safer together, safer wherever!'. We took part in the local anti-bullying event at the Galpharm stadium The Stadium The Galpharm Stadium seats 24,500 people along with hospitality boxes and conference rooms. There are four stands. The Riverside 'main' Stand incorporates two-tiers, with a row of 26 executive boxes running between the two tiers. on Friday November 23, where we had two stalls - one for primary school children in the morning and one for secondary school pupils in the afternoon. The first was a creative stall, where bright, colourful strips of paper were used to make a paper chain. The young people had to write on their views of bullying, and the aim was to make the paper chain as long as possible. The second stall was to consult pupils about their anti-bullying policies within schools, and also the effectiveness of these policies. Over 30 schools from all over Kirklees were involved. Other activities this month have included attending the BT Seen and Heard Award event in Leeds, enjoying a team building residential trip and preparing for the elections.
