 Newsletters, a division of Dow Jones & Company, publisher of The Wall Street Journal and other leading financial publications, has been vigorously expanding its operations recently through partnerships, launches, and now the acquisition of a company founded and run by the former Wall Street Journal technology editor, Richard Shaffer.

The purchase of Technologic Partners, a closely held A phrase used to describe the ownership, management, and operation of a corporation by a small group of people.

The 1984-founded, New York-based Technologic Partners is being combined with the Newsletters group at Dow Jones Newswires Dow Jones Newswires is the real-time financial news organization owned by Dow Jones. Founded in 1882, its primary competitors are Bloomberg L.P. and Reuters. The company reports more than 420,000 subscribers -- including brokers, traders, analysts and fund managers -- as of July , providing an online platform to expand the DJ Newsletters business and boost coverage of the private equity market. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Technologic Partners' eight online newsletters, which are read by more than 160,000 people daily, include VentureWire Professional, VentureWire People, VentureWire Wireless, VentureWire Life-sciences, and Computer Letter. With the acquisitions DJ Newsletters is now producing more than 20 specialized publications, including the widely read Daily Bankruptcy Review and other newsletters focusing on audiences with specialized information needs in insolvency, corporate governance Corporate Governance

The acquisition marks the return of Dick Shaffer to Dow Jones, where he created the popular weekly Wall Street Journal "Technology" column. He will remain editor-in-chief of the VentureWire publications and events and he will head up new product development at Dow Jones Newsletters--reporting to Richard Levine, vice president and executive editor of Dow Jones Newswires.
