Bullies drove me to the very edge; SHARLEEN REVEALS SCHOOL TORMENT.Byline: By EMMA SMITH Emma Hale Smith Bidamon (10 July 1804–30 April 1879) was married to Joseph Smith, Jr. until his death in 1844, and was an early leader of the Latter Day Saint movement in her own right, both during his life and afterward as a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ SHARLEEN SPITERI has told how vicious school bullies drove her to the brink. Singer Sharleen, 41, revealed she was battered by a group of eight girls when she was in fourth year. The bullying became so bad that she was driven to abuse cough medicine A cough medicine is a medicinal drug used to treat coughing and related conditions. Dry coughs are treated with cough suppressants (antitussives) that suppress the body's urge to cough, while productive coughs (coughs that produce phlegm) are treated with Benylin to forget her tormentors. The hassle started when pupils at Balloch, Dunbartonshire, became jealous because Sharleen was the only girl in technical drawing class. The Black Eyed Boy hit-maker described the bullying as a "really bad point" in her life. She said: "I never ever told my parents. The girls basically battered me, pushed me and belted me with their schoolbags. "I was really sick at one point. I had a bad cold and my mum gave me Benylin and I remembered it made me sleep. "So then I went through a period of buying Benylin to make me go to sleep because of the fear. It was a horrible time." The pop star's bullying nightmare eventually ended in violence when the group of girls prepared to attack her again. The Texas singer described how she "lost the plot" when the ring-leader approached. She said: "It took two teachers to pullme off her. I got suspended, she got suspended and my mum got called up to school. "Basically, I kicked the s*** out of the girl. Total blackout. Obviously the whole thing had built up over the years." The singer left school to become a hairdresser in Glasgow. She went on to co-found and front the highly successful Texas in 1988. Last summer, the mum of one released her debut solo album, Melody.
