Bull and Americam Target US Market for Smart Card-based Secure Building Access Control Systems.


CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1999--

Bull supplying cards for Americam's access control systems, which

are already used throughout Canada in manufacturing, loyalty,

education and transportation installations

Bull and Americam announced today here at CardTech-SecurTech that they have teamed up as partners to market Americam's family of smart-card based secure building access control systems in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Americam is demonstrating some of its products at Bull's booth at the show.

Americam's building access control system, called SECUR, is designed to support multiple applications. With Secur's customizable Access Control module:

-- Multiple access groups can be created to provide restricted access to specific areas for predefined working schedules

-- Notification can be provided upon every entrance to the site for the specified individuals

-- All doors can be unlocked in case of emergency

-- System status can be checked at anytime via a software interface.

-- Area management can be performed, which, at anytime, allows capacity of a specific site to be controlled as well as identifying the whereabouts of a specific. Reports are provided that track various user-defined statistics regarding access to designated areas.

"For example, you can buy lunch at the cafeteria with your card. Delivery actions can be controlled. Employees can even announce in advance a visitor via an intranet so that it's easier and faster to prepare a smart card for a visitor on the given date. At Bull's booth at CardTech-SecurTech, Americam is using a panel with two access control terminals and a door to show how its access control system works. A laptop, used as the terminal server, demonstrates how the network works. The management application is also included in the software.

-- Manufacturing multiple service applications: Domtar Winsor in Quebec and Domtar Cornwall in Ontario, Canada and also for Bull in Phoenix, Ariz. These applications are using contactless and hybrid smart cards to control the access to the buildings, to pay at the cafeteria, to manage security, etc.

-- Academic applications called Campuce are used to control the access to buildings, the attendance and electronic purses used to pay different services like fax, photocopies and other types of services. The project will spread out this summer with 80 buses and 20,000 cards.
