Bull CP8 and NBS Technologies Announce Strategic Alliance; Partnership underscores competitive strengths of both firms in fast-growing smart card market in North America.


ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1996--Bull CP8 and NBS (National Bureau of Standards) See NIST.

 Technologies, Inc., announced today that they are forming a strategic alliance whose primary thrust will be to provide smart card technology to financial institutions and other targeted markets. The companies will work together to develop smart card markets in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and to distribute each other's products on a global level.

The alliance includes a proposal to establish a world-class smart card manufacturing capability in North America in anticipation of rapid growth over the next decade. It also covers sourcing and manufacturing of smart cards Example of widely used contactless smart cards are Hong Kong's Octopus card, Paris' Calypso/Navigo card and Lisbon' LisboaViva card, which predate the ISO/IEC 14443 standard. The following tables list smart cards used for public transportation and other electronic purse applications. , technical assistance and support, plus cross distribution rights.
