Bull, Europay and the Slovenska Sporitelna Bank Announce the World's First Deployment Of EMV Off-the-Shelf Cards; More Than 100,000 Cards Will be Distributed in Slovakia.


PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 1999--Bull, Europay and the Slovakian bank Slovenska Sporitelna are delighted to announce the world's first deployment of 100,000 microprocessor cards complying with EMV EMV Elektromagnetische Verträglichkeit (German: Electromagnetic Compatibility)

 (Europay-Mastercard-VISA) international standard and Europay's "off-the-shelf" specifications.

This deployment - carried out in less than six months - is the fruit of close cooperation between Europay, European leader in payment systems, and Bull, world leader in microprocessor cards for the banking sector. EMV standard compatible, "off-the-shelf" cards will help banks migrate quickly and easily from magnetic strip to microprocessor cards.
