Buildings earn 'Oscars'.


TWO buildings scooped awards in Britain's building oscars.

The new observatory in Kielder Water Kielder Water is a large man-made reservoir in Northumberland in North East England. It is the largest artificial lake in the United Kingdom by capacity and it is surrounded by Kielder Forest, the largest man-made woodland in Europe.  and Forest Park, made a star turn at the national Civic Trust Awards. And Northumbria University's City Campus East also picked up a gong.

The observatory, designed by Charles Barclay Architects, was built to resemble a pier jutting jut

To extend outward or upward beyond the limits of the main body; project:
 over the landscape at the top of Black Fell.

Built almost entirely of timber, the building is self sufficient and features include an onsite wind turbine, composting toilet and wood burning stove.
