solutions, is introducing the latest extension to its heralded family of unified messaging Having access to e-mail, voice mail and faxes via a common computer application or by telephone. For example, unified messaging may send faxes and digitized voice mail to a mail server that turns them into e-mail attachments.  products.

Based on over three years of development, CallXpress Enterprise extends the CallXpress family by delivering a high-capacity, fault-tolerant unified messaging system designed specifically for the large multi-site enterprise.

"CallXpress Enterprise was developed in response to market demand for a large-scale unified messaging solution from an independent provider," said Randy Ottinger, President of AVT's Computer Telephony Products Group. "The enterprise market is looking for Looking for

a highly scalable product, built on proven NT-based technology that will integrate with existing PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN). , LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. , and groupware environments. Because of consolidation, the market has been left without a truly independent supplier that offers these attributes for the large corporate campus as well as the small branch office. This is exactly what we are delivering with CallXpress Enterprise."

The timing for introduction of this product is ideal. Many companies are currently replacing large, legacy voicemail systems because of year-2000 compliance problems. Built on several years of proven AVT NT-based technology and experience, CallXpress Enterprise delivers the next-generation of messaging solutions these companies require.

CallXpress Enterprise is designed and applicable for enterprise implementations for several key reasons:

Capacity and Scalability -- CallXpress Enterprise supports up to 128 ports on a single Windows NT server. This capacity allows support for up to 10,000 users. Additional AVT systems can be added in a network environment to provide seamless integration An addition of a new application, routine or device that works smoothly with the existing system. It implies that the new feature or program can be installed and used without problems. Contrast with "transparent," which implies that there is no discernible change after installation.  of campuses or branch offices -- creating a complete solution not only for the large headquarters campus, but for the entire global enterprise. CallXpress Enterprise also delivers horizontal scalability by integrating other key AVT NT services such as network fax and interactive voice response (IVR (Interactive Voice Response) An automated telephone information system that speaks to the caller with a combination of fixed voice menus and data extracted from databases in real time. ).

Enterprise Administration -- CallXpress Enterprise incorporates functionality designed for large-scale, multi-site administration. Capabilities such as the import of external user databases as part of the initial system set-up; support

for multiple classes of service depending on specific user requirements; and a single point of user-administration for multiple, geographically-dispersed CallXpress systems make the introduction of this product a natural fit for enterprise deployment.

Universal Access and Enterprise Integration -- To ensure universal access, CallXpress Enterprise incorporates all three message types (voice, fax, and email), accessible from a telephone, a desktop computer, or a web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you. . Addressing the fact that large enterprise environments often consist of a mix of email and PBX systems manufactured by multiple vendors, CallXpress Enterprise provides desktop interfaces for both of the top two leading Groupware packages -- Microsoft Exchange Messaging and groupware software for Windows from Microsoft. Exchange Server is an Internet-compliant e-mail system that runs under Windows NT/2000 and Windows Server 2003. It can be accessed by Web browsers, the Exchange client, versions of Outlook and the earlier Windows Inbox. (R) and Lotus Notes(R). Additionally, the initial version of the product will offer support for all major brands of PBX telephone systems including those from Lucent, NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd.
, Nortel, Ericsson, Siemens, Fujitsu, and Mitel.

IP Networking -- CallXpress Enterprise supports true digital networking of all voice and fax messages using the Internet or a corporate Intranet. Compliant with the industry-standard networking protocol VPIM (Voice Profile for Internet Mail) A method for encoding voice mail messages as data so they can travel via the SMTP mail protocol over IP networks. VPIM uses MIME to encode messages in multiple parts, which are decoded by VPIM-compliant voice mail systems at  (Voice Profile for Internet Mail), CallXpress Enterprise provides users with a transparent method of exchanging messages throughout the enterprise at a reduced cost of deployment and with greater functionality when compared with analog networking alternatives.

Fault Tolerance -- CallXpress Enterprise takes full advantage of fault tolerant technology through integration with hardware that offers fail-over safe redundancy including redundant components and disk mirroring. Additionally, customers are given the choice of storing all messages in a single message store or separating the message storage onto two separate servers.

The RightFAX Advantage -- Critical to a true unified messaging solution is the development and ownership of an integrated enterprise fax solution. CallXpress Enterprise incorporates the company's award-winning fax server technology -- RightFAX. Developed by AVT, RightFAX is enterprise-capable and includes functionality for distributed fax processing and load balancing across multiple servers; centralized administration for all RightFAX servers on the network; and the ability to establish rules-based least cost routing A feature of a telephone system that automatically connects an outgoing telephone call with the telephone service that costs the least to that location at that time of day. Depending on how it is programmed, least cost routing will either drop down to the second most-efficient service if  using the Internet or other wide area networking transports.

"The growth of our CallXpress for Windows NT business has been very strong since its introduction to the market over two years ago. CallXpress Enterprise now builds on that strength by allowing customers to deploy proven AVT solutions across their entire environment," added Ottinger.

AVT has already taken orders and has begun building a backlog for CallXpress Enterprise, which is entering beta test now. Two releases of the product are scheduled for 1999 with the first version being generally available early next year. CallXpress Enterprise will be offered through AVT's direct enterprise accounts sales group and through the company's strategic partners.
