Building faster, better: a construction revolution underway in Westchester.

The recent building boom in White Plains and other suburban markets has allowed construction companies, such as HRH HRH

, to bring advanced techniques to areas that have seen little advancement in building methods in many years.

HRH has been operating in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

since 1925. A previous incarnation of the firm built the Empire State Building. The company built The Jacob K. Javits Jacob Koppel "Jack" Javits (May 18, 1904 – March 7, 1986) was a liberal Republican New York politician originally allied with Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller, fellow U.S. Senators Irving Ives and Kenneth Keating, and Mayor John V. Lindsay.  Center, and is responsible for hundreds of thousands of housing, health and hospital, commercial and other new buildings and renovations throughout the New York metropolitan area New York–Northern New Jersey–Long Island is the most populous metropolitan area in the United States and the third most populous in the world, after Tokyo and Mexico City. .

In the last several years, HRH has been honored to have been selected by various developers to construct several new buildings in White Plains. Valued in aggregate at nearly half a billion dollars, these structures have revitalized that city's downtown with new housing, shopping and a performing arts center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. .

These major projects include the twin-towered Bank Street Commons; the City Center retail, entertainment and residential complex; $63-million 300 Mamaroneck Avenue and a host of other midsized developments in the area.

These projects represent a revolution for the construction business in Westchester County. In some cases, they were large enough in scale to allow HRH to be the first to import into the county sophisticated construction techniques typically employed only in larger markets such as New York City.

For example, HRH introduced concrete post-tensioning on the loft building at City Center and 300 Mamaroneck Avenue. This method employs steel cables to stress concrete slabs in lieu of typical reinforcing steel. It requires open space on all sides of the structure so the cables can be pulled hence this cost saving measure is suitable to a less densely developed site.

By reducing the overall amount of steel required in the building, post-tensioning provides a cost efficient alternative to traditional reinforced concrete without compromising speed.

Another advanced technique that HRH uses when appropriate in White Plains is a two-day concrete pour cycle. In New York City, everyone accustomed to seeing new hi-rise buildings go up at a pace of a new floor ever couple of days.

HRH is proud to have helped bring the same level of sophistication so·phis·ti·cate
