Building cleaners polish up on terror awareness.

Building cleaners from First Quality Maintenance (FQM) were recently instructed on terrorism prevention measures by Tom Garry, a Classic Security executive and retired NYPD lieutenant.

The program, titled "Terrorism Awareness for FQM Personnel," was designed for cleaners assigned to the Trinity Properties portfolio, to which FQM holds an exclusive cleaning contract. First Quality Maintenance and Classic Security are divisions of Alliance Building Services.

The cleaners were cautioned to always safeguard their keys and access cards, carry their employee identification cards, protect their uniforms and inform a supervisor immediately if a uniform, set of keys or access card is missing.

"Be aware of your daily activities, especially tenant spaces, locker rooms, storage rooms, mechanical areas, uniform rooms and loading docks," Garry told the cleaners. "And remember, if you see something, say something."

Garry urged the cleaners to report any suspicious behavior or persons, as well sights or smells, including out-of-place packages or vehicles, unusual odors, sick or dead animals and strange vapors and clouds. In addition to informing supervisors of unusual occurrences, cleaners can call the city's terrorism hotline at 1-888-NYC-SAFE.

"The maintenance workers in these buildings every day are in a unique position to help prevent terrorism," said Tom Cancelliere, director for Trinity Properties. "They see every corner of these buildings and are often the first to notice when something is amiss."
