 International Auto Show An auto show, or motor show, is a public exhibition of current automobile models, debuts, concept cars, or out-of-production classics. It is commonly attended by automobile manufacturers. Most auto shows occur once or twice a year. , the Detroit Regional Economic Partnership hosted 14 international trade commissioners from Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Hungary, Indonesia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Pakistan, South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa.  and Taipei. Trade commissioners promote trade and investment between their countries and the U.S., and these countries represent a good balance of leading and advanced markets, as well as fast emerging ones.

The theme for this year's visit was innovation and the strengths of the Detroit Region's business and talent. The message delivered was that our region possesses a strong automotive engineering Noun 1. automotive engineering - the activity of designing and constructing automobiles

 presence a strong engineering and advanced manufacturing skills. This existing base and new growth present great opportunities for business worldwide that are looking to establish a market in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and become global players.

These relationships provide opportunities to grow in the North American market, a critical strategic component of any company that wishes to be global. Carroll quoted business leaders from around the world that have expressed how important the Detroit Region is in their companies' respective global plans.

This initiative is designed to create sustainable economic development through market-driven open innovation. These initiatives are designed to help business find and develop needed talent as well as provide a pipeline of innovative talent for future needs.

Following the breakfast presentation, the Trade commissioners visited Kostal, a German-based mechatronics (MECHAnics elecTRONICS) The combination of mechanical and electronic systems. Embracing robotics, industrial control systems and human interfaces in numerous disciplines, mechatronics is a major step beyond "electromechanical," in which only electricity is required.  company located in Novi, and Roush industries of Livonia, which demonstrated its diversified engineering and production capabilities.

This marked the trade commissioners' second consecutive visit to the Detroit Region. They have built a strong relationship with the Partnership that serves to strengthen our region's global competitiveness. Charles Manual, economic consul, South African Consulate General, noted, "The partnership we have with your group is certainly one of the best partnerships that CITCA CITCA Chicago International Trade Commissioners Association

 has, if not the best. We really appreciate all the effort you and your team have put into very successful visit."

The visit culminated with a tour of the Auto Show during the Industry Preview Days.
