Building Congress selects new chairman.


John Cavanagh John Cavanagh has been the Director of the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington DC since 1998 and is a founding fellow of the Transnational Institute (TNI) in Amsterdam. , COO of Morse Diesel International, has succeeded John F. Hennessy, III as New York New York, state, United States

 Building Congress Chairman. He and a slate of new officers were elected by the Building Congress' Board of Directors at the organization's annual membership meeting held on January 18th.

Hennessy, who has served as chairman of the Building Congress for four years, will remain active in the organization as chairman of both the Energy Committee and the Council of Presidents. In addition, Hennessy has been designated Chairman Emeritus.

Cavanagh, who previously served as a Building Congress Vice Chairman, will take on his new responsibilities effective immediately.

"I am eager to carry forward the Building Congress' mission of advocating sensible investments designed to spur economic development, enhance the quality of life for all New Yorkers and create jobs for the industry."

"The Building Congress has achieved an unprecedented level of success during John Hennessy's tenure, thanks in large part to his tireless efforts on behalf of the working men and women of the design, construction and real estate industry," said Richard T. Anderson, president of the Building Congress. "And we look forward to his continued involvement with the organization for years to come."

"Under John Cavanagh's leadership, I am confident the Building Congress will expand its role on behalf of the entire industry and become a greater force for economic and infrastructure development throughout the City," Hennessy asserted. "He is an exceptional leader whose efforts have benefited us all."

Hennessy, who is Chairman of Syska & Hennessy, Inc., announced that the Hennessy Foundation has created a Building Congress fund to provide professional fellowships and internships to deserving individuals interested in the building industry.

"The fund has been set up to encourage participation in our industry by young people so that we can keep the industry vibrant and constantly renewing itself," Hennessy said. "Those who knew my grandfather and father and Charlie Schaffner know that renewal of the industry was an issue near and dear to their hearts."

At the annual membership meeting, members of the Building Congress elected 20 directors for the class of 1998, including six new directors. The new directors are: Parsons Brinckerhoff Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) is a planning, engineering, program and construction management organization. The company has been involved in planning and designing some of the world's largest public works projects, such as Boston's Big Dig, Britain's rail system Network Rail;  Vice President Michael Della Rocca; Times Square BID President Gretchen Dykstra Gretchen Dykstra is the previous President and CEO of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation. The former Commissioner of New York City's Department of Consumer Affairs, Dykstra left that post in April of 2005 to head up the foundation, which is entrusted with raising funds for ; LCOR Regional Vice President Kurt Eichler; Fussell Construction President Olivia Fussell; Goetz, Fitzpatrick & Flynn partner Peter Goetz, AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture  New York City New York City: see New York, city.
