 Education Fund will once again sponsor two week-long courses on federal taxation:

* The introductory, or Level I, course will be held April 29-May 4 at Michigan State University Michigan State University, at East Lansing; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1855. It opened in 1857 as Michigan Agricultural College, the first state agricultural college.  In East Lansing, Michigan East Lansing is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city is located directly east of Lansing, Michigan, the state's capital. Most of the city is within Ingham County, though a small portion lies in Clinton County. , and is designed for individuals with less than four years' experience in federal tax matters; and

* The advanced, or Level II, course will be held August 5-10 at the Kingsgate Conference Center in Cincinnati, Ohio “Cincinnati” redirects here. For other uses, see Cincinnati (disambiguation).
Cincinnati is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Hamilton County.

Ranked as one of America’s top 25 public research universities and in the top 50 of all American research universities,[2] ), and is designed for individuals with between four and eight years' experience.

Although the two courses retain the same basic structure, TEI's Federal Tax Committee has carefully reviewed the evaluations from previous years' offerings and made changes in both subjects and speakers. In refreshing the courses, the committee has also taken into account changes in the applicable rules, regulations, and procedures. Both courses feature an outstanding faculty of tax professionals who will share their valuable insights and experience. The Institute's Continuing Education continuing education: see adult education.

The purpose of this communication is to inform TEI members of the content, registration procedures, and deadlines for the Level I and II courses. The specific subjects to be covered, the faculty, and general information about the courses are discussed in the accompanying brochure, thereby allowing TEI members and other interested parties to discern dis·cern

Which Course is Right for You?

The Level I course is designed for individuals with less than four years' experience in federal tax matters and provides a basic overview of the taxation of corporations. Topics include:

* Important Tax Accounting Issues, Including Periods and Methods

* Uniform Capitalization capitalization n. 1) the act of counting anticipated earnings and expenses as capital assets (property, equipment, fixtures) for accounting purposes. 2) the amount of anticipated net earnings which hypothetically can be used for conversion into capital assets.  Rules

& Taxation of Corporations and Shareholders

* R&E Credit Issues

* Taxation of Employee Compensation

* Alternative Minimum Tax

* Preparing Form 1120

* Financial Accounting for Income Tax

The Level II course, aimed generally at individuals with between four and eight years of federal tax experience, provides a more advanced study of corporate taxation. Topics include:

* Corporate Organizations, Distributions, and Liquidations

* Consolidated Returns

* Executive Compensation

* FAS 109

* Financial Products

* Mergers, Acquisitions, and Reorganizations

* Joint Venture and Partnership Issues
