Bentley Systems Inc. (Exton, Pa.) Thursday announced that Budapest Waterworks in Hungary and the city of Graested-Gilleleje, Denmark, have selected ModelServer Discovery(TM) for online access to geoengineering data.

In addition, Bentley will be shipping in November a new Stream Release of ModelServer Discovery that includes interfaces to global positioning system (GPS) devices for mobile geoengineering and support for hybrid raster and vector publishing using imaging server technology from HMR, a Bentley Strategic Affiliate.

Budapest Waterworks found that their engineering data was inaccessible to many that need the data, including customer service and emergency operators. By "wiring" the utility with geoengineering information, engineering and spatial data can be shared across the enterprise using simple Web browsers.

Using ModelServer Discovery, Budapest Waterworks will increase access from only two workstations to forty workstations.

The Danish local government of Graested-Gilleleje had a similar problem before evaluating ModelServer Discovery. The local government decided that citizens should be able to access geoengineering maps through the Web easily and at no cost. By selecting ModelServer Discovery, the government will now give the public open access to geoengineering data and related information.

The public will benefit from this access in various ways. For example, a citizen can find the school district for a particular address by entering the street name and house number. Real estate agents, banks and citizens can find the "society region" (providing snow removal and other municipal functions) in which a parcel is located by entering a region name, parcel number, or street address.

More on the Stream Release of ModelServer Discovery

The Stream Release of ModelServer Discovery now has support for imaging through a subset of ModelServer Imager(TM), new server technology from HMR. Users of ModelServer Discovery will now be able to overlay their geoengineering vector data on satellite and aerial photos.

The advantage of incorporating ModelServer Imager technology is that it provides a highly optimized method of obtaining and viewing large images across the Internet.

In addition, two GPS interfaces are included in the Stream Release, supporting GPS devices from Trimble (Nasdaq:TRMB) and Ashtech, a subsidiary of Orbital Sciences Corporation (NYSE:ORB). The GPS interfaces facilitate the use of ModelServer Discovery in the mobile geoengineering environment.

For example, a field maintenance engineer using a mobile client application on a pen-based Windows(R) or Windows CE device would receive from ModelServer Discovery a geoengineering map showing his location. Relevant assets or points of interest in his immediate vicinity are also automatically shown.
