Buchanan Counseling Center Honors Horizon Bank With the Family Life Enhancement Award.

Ask most people what is important in their lives and they will likely answer "work" and "family." That's why the Buchanan Counseling Center each year honors companies which recognize that "work" and "family" need not be competing values.

The Family Life Enhancement Award was created in 1992 to honor Indiana businesses that recognize the impact of the workplace on employees' family life by creating innovative, compassionate human resource policies. This year, the Buchanan Counseling Center's Family Life Enhancement Award goes to Horizon Bank of Michigan City Michigan City, city (1990 pop. 33,822), La Porte co., NW Ind., on Lake Michigan; inc. 1836. Michigan City produces machinery, consumer articles, kitchen and transportation equipment, concrete and wire products, chemicals, apparel, and cast iron boilers. , IN.

Buchanan Counseling Center director, Rev. David Holling, says Horizon Bank clearly nurtures a family-friendly environment. "The selection committee chose Horizon in part because of its flexible work schedules, access to computers for employees to work from home, and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Craig Dwight's commitment to workplace diversity and emphasis on balancing work and personal responsibilities," he says. "Horizon also allows employees to utilize sick time to care for immediate family members suffering from physical or emotional illness. Clarian Health Partners leadership and staff from the Buchanan Counseling Center presented Horizon Bank with its Family Life Enhancement Award August 10th at a luncheon at Pottawattomie Country Club.

The Buchanan Counseling Center is based on Clarian Health's Methodist Hospital campus, and provides therapy and counseling services at 10 locations throughout central Indiana.

The centers provide pastoral counseling, which works to integrate both the mental and spiritual aspects of the individual in dealing with the issues that affect their lives. While counselors and therapists are not all ordained or·dain

 clergy, all have strong faith-based orientations. The Buchanan Counseling Center, like the companies it honors through the Family Life Enhancement Award, believes in balance. For Buchanan clients, that means emotional balance and spiritual balance. The centers offer a host of counseling services including marital and family counseling.

Past winners of the Family Life Enhancement Award include Eli Lilly, Cummins Engine and Atlas Van Lines Atlas Van Lines is a moving van company formed in 1948 by a group of 33 local moving firms and based in Evansville, Indiana. As an agent-owned company it is similar in form to a cooperative. Atlas provided a means to compete with other emerging alliances of moving van companies. .
