Brynmawr scrape home in a low-scoring encounter; Thomas, Carroll Conference Div Three.


BRYNMAWR continued their challenge in Division Three when they dismissed visitors Caerphilly Caerphilly (kīrfĭl`ē, kär–), Welsh Caerffili, town (1981 pop. 42,376) and county borough, 108 sq mi (279 sq km), S Wales.  & Bedwas for just 79 with Daniel Davies taking 4-30 off 10 overs, captain Chris Hartland 2-12 off nine and Lyndon McGriele 1-12 off 10.

There were some nervous moments for Brynmawr before they got there, however, as Matthew Jones took 5-32 off nine overs but James O'Connell got 19 and helped Brynmawr to reach 83-7.

Moving up are Caerleon after they went to Barry and beat the Wanderers by three wickets in another exciting game.

The Wanderers scored 188 all out with Gareth Flanagan (63) top scoring and Vaji Maidu getting 37. Paul Culliton took 2-11 for Caerleon and Raju Subramrany 2-22.

 took 2-11 for the Wanderers and Peter Beckett 2-20.

Pontllanfraith looked like they had broken their duck when they scored 243-6 going in first against Christchurch in Ferndale.

Gethin Patterson sent Crumlin on their way with a fine 66 leaving Jolliffe to take them to a seven wicket win with an unbeaten 43.

Ian Williams made 35 not out and Greg Tew 31 as Monkswood reached 164-7 in Division Four at home to Newport III for whom Gulam Joshamtook 3-26.

Joshamthen made 51 and John Rowlett 30 as Newport III got the runs for four wickets.

Gareth Trumper took 3-22 for Monkswood.

Alan Cooper's fine form continued as he made a marvellous 132 not out in Blaina's total of 241-3 at Whitchurch Heath III and Michael Clarke chipped in with 22 not out.

Heath were never in the hunt as Alan Barber took 4-12 for Blaina and Ken Palmer 3-13 to get them all out for only 72.
