Bruton recognized for outstanding LatAm service.Former AMCHAM executive vice president John M. Bruton joined some celebrated company this spring, as he was named the recipient of the Eagle of the Americas award. The award is presented by the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA) and bestowed on an individual who "has done the most to advance our mission of increased trade and investment between the United States and Latin America." Previous award winners include David Rockefeller (2002), late U.S. Commerce Secretary Ronald Brown (1996), former U.S. Special Envoy to the Americas Thomas "Mack" McLarty III (1994) and former Argentine Economy Secretary Domingo Cavallo (1995). Bruton was recognized for his 30 years of service to the AMERICAN CHAMBER/MEXICO, the largest American Chamber of Commerce outside of the United States, and is considered an expert on U.S. Mexico business and investment relations. He retired from AMCHAM to great fanfare at the end of last year--U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell recognized his contributions to bilateral affairs during his most recent visit to Mexico City--and now works as a representative for Manatt Jones Global Strategies. The award was presented at a special ceremony conducted by AACCLA president William Gambrel in Washington, D.C., in May. |
