BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Home prices in historic Brunswick, GA are showing extraordinary strength. In 2005, prices appreciated 13% - more than double the annual rate for each of the previous 10 years. And according to according to

These indicators were underscored in the January 2007 issue of Kiplinger's Personal Financial Adviser with Brunswick leading its list of "healthy" cities in which home prices will climb.

"While we appreciate the special values and attractiveness of our community, it was surprising and welcome recognition from a publication assessing 360 metropolitan areas across the country," said Brunswick Mayor Bryan Thompson Bryan Thompson (born October 11, 1974 in Phoenix, Arizona) is an automotive and freelance designer. He received a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree from College for Creative Studies in 1999 and is employed at Nissan Design America in San Diego. .

Most of the current "healthy" cities saw only modest appreciation during the recent real estate boom. Previously hot markets are now experiencing declines while Brunswick with its untapped value shows increasing strength.

Blueprint Brunswick, the city's economic development master plan, laid the groundwork for the present upsurge. The plan led to the $1.5 billion Liberty Harbor waterfront community, now under construction at the gateway to the popular Golden Isles. Intensive development and escalating prices on the islands have favored a more reasonable alternative, strengthening the Brunswick market. Strong sales at Liberty Harbor reflect this extraordinary comparative value.

Geography has also helped Brunswick. Four miles from open sea, it's the western most port city on the East Coast. No significant hurricane has hit the town in more than 100 years, so homeowner insurance is a bargain compared to Florida and the Gulf Coast.

Brunswick's renowned regional hospital is expanding, schools are being improved and downtown Brunswick is thriving. Major national chains like Target and Lowe's are moving to the area - a promising market indicator of Brunswick's future growth.
