Bruno calls for words, not action, on stadium.

As pressure mounts on Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to approve plans for the West Side stadium, Bruno has called for a fresh meeting to hammer out the pros and cons of the proposal.

Bruno said he wants a meeting with Governor George Pataki, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Silver to discuss the best possible use for the rail yards on the West Side of Manhattan. In a May 5 letter leaked to the press this week, the chairman of the U.S. Olympic Committee, Peter Ueberroth, told Gov. Pataki, Sen. Bruno and Speaker Silver that, without the Jets stadium there would be no 2012 games in New York City.

The stadium hinges on the approval of the Public Authorities Control Board, comprised of Pataki, Bruno and Silver. Both Bruno and Silver have asked for delays over funding concerns, as well as the legal decisions yet to come over the several lawsuits against MTA and other state agencies.

It was reported this week that Bruno said, "We're waiting still to get clarity on some of the answers to questions that we've asked that pertain to the stadium and the ramifications of it. I still believe that the most productive thing that can happen for this city and the state is to have a public meeting with the governor, the mayor, the speaker, and myself, and anyone else that we need to have an intelligent discussion as to the best use of that site over the MTA yards."

According to published reports, Silver is supporting Bruno in his calls for a fresh round of meetings.

The next regularly scheduled PACB meeting is scheduled to take place this week.
