Bruker Daltonics earned $29.7 million in revenues during the third quarter of 2002, up 24.9% from a year ago. Operating income rose 173% to total $2.7 million. R&D and SG&A spending, as a percentage of revenue, continued to decline in the third quarter. R&D is expected to be around 18% of sales at year end and to total 10% of sales in the future.

New order bookings for Life Science Systems increased over 20% for the quarter. up 70% of total company sales, while Substance Detection Systems and Aftermarket revenues each accounted for 15% of sales. Ultraflex TOF/TOF sales were even distributed between non-profit and private customers. The Proteineer Complete System received an order worth over $1 million from an Asian research hospital. Electrospray TOF and QTOF doubled sales over a year ago, but held a low market share, around the low single digits, due to the fact that they were recently introduced. The company also announced that as of September, it has terminated its strategic alliance with PerkinElmer to co-market its OmniFlex TOF products.

Bruker Daltonics maintains its forecast of 18%-22% revenue growth for 2002, with EPS between $0.08 and $0.10. The company expects the fourth quarter to be very profitable, but will hold off its forecast for 2003 until January. It also predicts that Substance Detection sales will fall below 15% of total sales for the year, while Aftermarket revenue should make up just over 15% of its revenue in 2002 and dose to 20% of revenues within two years.
