New High-Performance AutoFlex(TM) TOF/TOF is Affordable, Offers

Small Footprint; T3-Sequencing(TM) for Top-Down Proteomics Introduced

for UltraFlex TOF/TOF

Bruker Daltonics Inc., a subsidiary of Bruker BioSciences Corporation Bruker Biosciences Corporation is a Massachusetts-based company formed in 2003 which develops and manufactures scientific instrumentation for academic research and industrial use.  (NASDAQ NASDAQ

characteristics of larger TOF/TOF systems, requires less lab space, and is priced attractively at $375,000.

Since the introduction of Bruker Daltonics' ultraflex(TM) TOF/TOF system two years ago, MALDI-TOF/TOF technology has been adopted very rapidly by the global proteomics community. Advantages of MALDI-TOF/TOF technology include superb MS/MS sensitivity, sequence coverage and information content due to the inherent high-energy MS/MS fragment generation. At the same time, TOF/TOF tandem mass spectra can be acquired with unprecedented throughput and ease of use, and the results are straight-forward to interpret automatically.

The new autoflex TOF/TOF, for the first time, provides the power of MALDI-TOF/TOF in a compact and affordable research system for proteomics applications. The system enables extremely fast, automated protein identification by MALDI-TOF MALDI-TOF Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization - Time of Flight  peptide mass fingerprinting Peptide mass fingerprinting (PMF) (also known as protein fingerprinting) is an analytical technique for protein identification that was developed 1993 by several groups independently. , immediately followed by more detailed protein structural characterization using MALDI-TOF/TOF tandem mass spectrometry Tandem mass spectrometry, also known as MS/MS, involves multiple steps of mass spectrometry selection, with some form of fragmentation occurring in between the stages. . The vertical autoflex TOF/TOF can be seamlessly integrated into any protein research or biomarker discovery laboratory.

The autoflex TOF/TOF benefits from Bruker Daltonics' MALDI MALDI Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization  sample targets which use the industry-standard microtitre plate (MTP (1) (Message Transfer Part) See SS7.

) format, and are thus easily compatible with many standard microbiology or clinical diagnostics sample preparation robots. An optional robotic arm is available for automated delivery of additional MTP MALDI targets into the autoflex TOF/TOF for unattended 24/7 operation.

The autoflex TOF/TOF incorporates Bruker Daltonics' patented AnchorChip(TM) technology, which provides homogeneous, exactly-positioned samples on the MALDI-target for robust and fast automation, as well as a sensitivity boost by up to two orders of magnitude. The autoflex TOF/TOF can be an integral module of either Bruker Daltonics' Proteineer(TM) solution for high-success expression proteomics, or the ClinProt(TM) solution for biomarker discovery and clinical proteomics.

The Bruker Daltonics ultraflex TOF/TOF has already been very successfully used for de novo peptide sequencing. At IMSC, Bruker Daltonics now also announces that its top-of-the-line UltraFlex TOF/TOF is further enhanced to offer T3-Sequencing(TM), a novel and unique "top-down proteomics" method for obtaining extensive structural information on intact, undigested proteins. Moreover, UltraFlex TOF/TOF mass accuracy has been dramatically improved and is now specified at 5 ppm for peptides, which is very beneficial for both peptide mass fingerprinting and de novo peptide sequencing.

"Our MALDI-TOF/TOF systems quickly have become very accepted in proteomics research due to the significant jump in MS/MS performance and information content afforded by this exciting technology," commented Frank H. Laukien, Ph.D., President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Bruker Daltonics. "With the introduction of the autoflex TOF/TOF, we are now offering high-energy MALDI-TOF/TOF capabilities to many more protein research laboratories who wish to go far beyond older MALDI-TOF PSD (tool) PSD - Portable Scheme Debugger.  or MALDI-Q-q-TOF technologies."

"We are also excited to extend the performance leadership of our top-of-the-line ultraflex TOF/TOF by introducing the unique and very useful T3-Sequencing top-down proteomics method, while at the same time dramatically improving mass accuracy. We believe this makes our ultraFlex TOF/TOF the only true protein and peptide analyzer."
