Bruchac speaks eloquently of his Abenaki heritage in this collection of short poems, many of which first appeared in literary magazines. Themes focus upon nature, bonds between fathers and sons, and concern for the Earth future generations will inherit. "At the Old Dog's Grave" celebrates the interconnectedness of all things: "Before we leave, we link our hands/let her old soul lead us--as it led her/away from weakening spine, eyes going blind--back into the cycle which strengthens hearts/part of each other, part of everything which lives." A fine complement to Native American and environmental studies. Jessica Swaim, Cataloger cat·a·log or cat·a·logue
