Bruce Technologies introduces new lower cost horizontal furnace; Leading equipment supplier to semiconductor manufacturers targets new markets with a "best of breed" alternative at an economic price point.

NORTH BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 8, 1996-- Bruce Technologies International, a leading supplier of advanced furnaces and process control software to semiconductor manufacturers, today announced the addition of the BDF-40 to its horizontal furnace furnace, enclosed space for the burning of fuel. There are many kinds of furnaces, the type depending upon the fuel and the use to which the heat produced within it is put. Most familiar are the furnaces used in the heating of buildings.  product line. Based on Bruce's top-of-the-line BDF-41, the BDF-40 was designed specifically for small-to-medium size semiconductor manufacturers and R&D labs who have relied on used, re-built or lower quality furnaces to meet budgetary requirements.

"In the past, smaller companies and R&D labs sometimes had to compromise quality for price. BDF-40 provides them with an alternative: a furnace with the Bruce name at a lower price point," said Bob McAuliffe, President of Bruce. "Customer interest in this area is high."

"Competition is increasing in the low-cost furnace market where sub-micron technology is not always a gating factor, and price is increasingly influential in the decision process," remarked Gary Frankfort, Director of Marketing at Bruce Technologies. "We're pleased to be expanding Bruce's market capabilities in this way."

The BDF-40 horizontal furnace is capable of performing atmospheric and LPCVD LPCVD Low Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition  films on 125mm and 150mm silicon wafers wafers

. The BDF-40 contains four separate process chambers that are packaged in a small system footprint. The three zone elements are controlled by Bruce's new Model 7353H controller. The BDF-40 has provisions to accommodate a cantilever boatloader design for reduced particle generation, a source cabinet that includes easy quartz removal, and a vertical gas system layout for easy component accessibility.

The BDF-40 is compatible with Bruce's APEX software supervisory system. Recognized as the industry's model for diffusion diffusion, in chemistry, the spontaneous migration of substances from regions where their concentration is high to regions where their concentration is low. Diffusion is important in many life processes.  cell management, APEX is specifically designed to manage the diffusion manufacturing process by providing up-to-date reports of data, and creating or modifying recipes containing variables and parameters for processing.
