Brownsville has chosen OAG to provide a Web-based Flight Information Display System (FIDS), SMS Flight Alert Messaging service and printed/online flight schedule solutions. These offerings coincide with Brownsville's "Are We There Yet?" campaign promoting the fact that the Brownsville South Padre Island is the closest airport to the Island and the two largest cities along the border, Brownsville and Matamoros.

Travelers are now able to obtain real-time flight status information via the airport's website at www.flybrownsville.com as well as receive flight updates via their cell phone. Brownsville South Padre Island also plans to integrate the OAG FIDS offering into their airport monitors to mirror the real-time information currently available on the website.

"The key to our success has been creating awareness with travelers that we are the first choice when traveling to and from the Rio Grande Valley and northern Mexico. And, once engaged with the consumer we have provided superior customer service in all facets of the traveling experience" said Michael Jones, Brownsville's director of business development. "The OAG solution has been an integral component in our ability to more effectively communicate with customers online, in the terminal and at surrounding businesses. About Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport

BRO, South Padre Island and Brownsville's International Airport has a history of firsts going back to 1929 when Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindburgh opened the airport landing with the first air mail from Mexico City. Passenger service followed immediately with Pan American Airways, Mexicana and Braniff. The first jet engine was tested here. In the 1990's BRO was the first airport in the region to offer all jet passenger service and now it is first again by offering Flight Alert to its customers.

Just a short 18 miles from what the Travel Channel calls America's third best beach, South Padre Island, passengers can ride a $2 shuttle to and from the Island. This service is free to participating hotels. BRO now offers more flights than ever before and has become the airport of choice for its sister city Matamoros, Mexico, a friendly, historic, industrial boom town of one million that is joined to Brownsville by the Rio Grande River, called the Rio Bravo on the Mexican side.

The airport just added a new secure FREE overflow parking lot to handle all the additional traffic and unprecedented growth. A new Bistro featuring fresh fruit drinks, espresso, delicious regional dishes, entertainment with a new travel shop and newsstand opened in July. You can learn more about Brownsville South Padre Island International at www.flybrownsville.com including real time flight schedules and OAG's flight finder tool to plan travel from BRO to anywhere in the world.
