Brown-Forman Completes Sale of Closed Jekel Facilities; Jekel Vineyards Continues With Monterey Focus.GREENFIELD, Calif. -- Brown-Forman has completed the sale of the former Jekel Winery to S.A.M. The winery was closed in 2004 and production of Jekel wines was moved to other Brown-Forman wineries. Brown-Forman will purchase grapes from the vineyard through the 2007 harvest, and retain rights to the Gravelstone vineyard name. Steve Dorfman, Chief Winery Officer for Brown-Forman, said the Jekel facility did not provide for the expected growth of the Jekel brand and, with newer facilities nearby, the winery was no longer needed to support the brand.
