Brown is back in business.


THE one trillion dollar Premier pulled off the international deal of the century, yesterday.

For Gordon Brown to bring the world together to fight back against the global recession was a remarkable achievement.

Getting 20 major nations - all with different priorities and competing interests - to sign up to anything is fiendishly fiend·ish

Yet in the space of a few months, the British Prime Minister has laid the foundations for a new financial order in what is a potentially historic step.

His formidable drive and unswerving determination, allied to a unique understanding of how the global economy operates, earned our man the trust of foreign chancellors and kings, premiers and presidents.

Of course, Mr Brown couldn't have delivered the London agreement The London Agreement may refer to one of the following agreements signed in London:
  • the Peres-Hussein London Agreement, signed in 1987 by Shimon Peres and King Hussein of Jordan.
 without a little magic from Barack Obama.

The US President's charm certainly complemented the PM's more direct approach.

But giving due credit to the White House in no way diminishes Mr Brown's personal triumph.

The centre-Left has won the argument.

Intervention and progressive values have finally trumped the devil-take-the-hindmost, do-nothing thinking that has dominated for the past 30 years.
