Brown's still the best we've got; Yourview: Comment OF THE DAY.


THE country's in the grip of recession, MPs are being accused of bending expenses rules and now there are calls for Labour to get rid of Gordon Brown as PM and call a General Election.

But what's that going to achieve? Is there a wee bit of panic setting in? I would happily join in the latest hue and cry hue and cry, formerly, in English law, pursuit of a criminal immediately after he had committed a felony. Whoever witnessed or discovered the crime was required to raise the hue and cry against the perpetrator (e.g. , but who do we find, who is better than the Prime Minister, to lead us out of this mess?

James Denham, Galashiels... THE baying packs on all sides of the Commons are trying to divert attention from their own greed by attacking Gordon Brown, then headline grabbing by resigning to take the heat off themselves.

Before any General Election, it's important we get all the facts about all the MPs who have milked the system so we can elect a more honest crowd.

John Brown... GORDON BROWN should not go to the country before he has cleaned up Parliament and received the credit for doing so.

He must continue his efforts to rescue the economy until the end of his term. I left the Labour Party because of New Labour policies. Maybe it's time I returned.

T. Park, byemail... WITH the recession, unemployment and the expenses scandal, to name but a few issues that need to be dealt with at the moment, I was surprised Gordon Brown found the time to phone The Priory make sure Susan Boyle was OK. The PM needs to start getting his priorities right.

Emma Hardy, Leeds... THROUGHOUT this whole expenses debacle, Gordon Brown seems to be taking all the flak.
