Benjamin Benenson founded Benenson Capital partners in 1905, making a name for himself in the development of Bronx tenements. The company grow incrementally in the following years, thriving even during the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Charles Benenson Charles B. Benenson (30 January 1913 – 22 February 2004) was an American real estate broker.

Benenson Realty Co. was founded by his father Benjamin Benenson in 1905 and grew into an industry leader under his guidance, until his death in 1938.
 joined the firm in 1930, building upon the foundation his father had set. His work was marked by cooperation with other prestigious real estate families and his ability to sniff out under-developed sites a combination of traits that resulted in thousands of pioneering deals.

While Benjamin Benenson had been renown for his civic mindedness, Charles made the Benenson family name synonymous with synonymous with

The family was also renown for its contribution to Jewish philanthropies, Catholic parochial educational facilities and the arts.

Charles died on February 22, 2004, at the age of 91. Today, his sons Bruce William, Frederick and Lawrence, run the firm along with senior executives, Richard Kessler, James E. Stifel and Lloyd Stabiner.

The firm owns over 200 properties worldwide, including 25 residential developments in France, the historic Willard Hotel in Washington D.C., the Look building on Madison Avenue, and 292 Central Park West.

Other properties include The Metropolis on 44th and Lexington, a new residential tower developed in conjunction with Rose Associates; the Cross County Shopping Center, in Yonkers, now undergoing major expansion and renovation; Le Rivage riv·age

The recent anniversary party, which was held at the Ukranian Institute of America, a landmark French Rennaisance mansion on Fifth Avenue's Museum Mile, both celebrated the company's achievements and paid tribute to Charles B. Benenson's passion for art with an exhibition from his collection.

The exhibition included 40 paintings and sculptures, many of which had not been viewed in public for over 40 years. It included the largest collection of African art in private hands, and works by such legendary artists as Jean-Michael Basquiat, Alexander Calder, Stuart Davis, Jean Dubuffet, Max Ernst, Red Grooms, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Ferdnand Leger, Richard Lindner, Jaques Lipchitz, Reginald Marsh, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, Henry Moore, Francis Picabia, Pablo Picasso and Augeste Rodin.

Much of the art collection will be donated to Yale University, where Charles Benenson drew on his instincts for the visual arts, refined his tastes and first began collecting work from 20th century masters of American and African arts. Charles, a lifelong supporter of the Yale Art Gallery, was part of its governing board from 1991 to 2004, and helped grow its collection to rank with some of the major public arts museums in the United States :

Charles' sons today continue to grow his legacy while striving to continue his dedication to helping others. The Benenson brothers are the second generation of their family to serve on the boards of the various organizations their father favored.
