Brothers' wait on race attack claim.


A jury has failed to reach a verdict on two brothers accused of launching a racial attack on a visitor to a block of Cardiff flats.

A third man, Edress Kaid, 22, of Arlington Crescent, Llanrumney, was found not guilty on the direction of the judge.

Brothers David Matthews, 31, of Lynmouth Close, Rumney, and Anthony Matthews, 26, of Harrison Close, Llanrumney, had denied going around to their sister's home and attacking Harry Perries who had complained about a noise nuisance.

At Cardiff Crown Court Cardiff Crown Court is a historic building situated in Cardiff's Civic Centre, Cathays Park. , prosecutor John Ryan alleged Mr Perries was greeted with racist, verbal abuse before being followed in a car then attacked.

'Three men got out, one carrying a baseball bat,' he alleged.

Mr Perries claimed he ran from the scene and flagged down a police car in Newport Road.

Both David and Anthony Matthews denied having anything to do with the alleged attack and denied a charge of racially aggravated common assault.
