Brother announces new generation of award winning laser printers.

SOMERSET, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1996--Brother International Corp. today announced the HL-700 series, a full line of 6 page-per-minute, true 600 x 600 dpi, desktop laser printers with expected street prices starting at $349.99.

The HL-700 series consists of three models: the HL-720, HL-730 and HL-730DX. The major differences include file printing compatibility and types of software included with each. Product will begin shipping in late June 1996. The HL-700 series can be seen at Booth 2770 in the main area of PC Expo, June 18 - 20 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.

The Brother HL-700 series of printers is the next generation of the award winning and highly acclaimed 6PPM printer line. They are designed to handle more than traditional laser printer output and feature an innovative Brother print engine. Each printer features Brother's innovative and technologically advanced straight paper path, allowing the user to print more types and sizes of paper stocks, while avoiding annoying paper jams and curls. It is the only printer in its class to be able to print envelopes up to 9" x 12".

Targeted at the SOHO (Small Office, Home Office) user who requires the quality of laser output at an affordable price, the HL-700 series printers true 600 x 600 DPI resolution produce output of near typeset quality.

The HL-720 comes standard with the Brother Windows Printing Solution and is targeted at the price-conscious Windows user who requires laser quality output. Expected street price is $349.99.

Both the HL-730 and HL-730DX come standard with the Brother Printing Solution for Windows, Hewlett Packard LaserJet IIP (PCL 4) resident, PCL5e software, Epson FX-850 and IBM Proprinter emulations which ensure compatibility with major personal computer platforms and popular software application packages. All units feature patented auto-emulation switching which enables the printer to automatically sense and adjust to the data stream sent by the PC. These printers are targeted at the Windows and DOS user -- expected street prices are $399.99 (HL-730) and $429.99 (HL-730DX).

All HL-700 series printers include a Windows 95, 3.1 and 3.11 driver and include Bookmaker Corporation's Surf 'n' Print software (SRP $9.95). The HL-730DX also includes Brother Font Manager ($69.95 value) -- a software application that provides up to 110 additional fonts and allows the user to better utilize and organize all installed fonts.
