Brother announces creation of Web Browser and PC Synchronization Software to run on future Personal Information Products.SOMERSET, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 1997-- Brother partners with STNC STNC Security Teams Net Crew Enterprises and Puma Technology for revolutionary service introduction Brother International Corp. today announced the development of its own web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you. to be used on its new category of Personal Information Products (PIP). The Brother Internet Browser will bring full graphics viewing to users along with software developed for Internet browsing. These stand alone, full function Personal Information Products will allow access to the Internet and full graphic content. Developed in conjunction with STNC Enterprises Ltd., a British-based software development company specializing in computer networking, communications and the Internet, STNC will create this browser to run on Brother products using the Geoworks Geos 3.0 Operating System. By using the highly-efficient Geoworks Geos Operating System, Brother will develop fully functional Internet products at extremely affordable prices. Brother's browser will include image handlers to decode GIF GIF in full Graphics Interchange Format Standard computer file format for graphic images. GIF files use data compression to reduce the file size. The original version of the format was developed by CompuServe in 1987. (including GIF89) and JPEG JPEG in full Joint Photographic Experts Group Standard computer file format for storing graphic images in a compressed form for general use.
