Brother Roger, 1915-2005.Taize -- The 90-year-old founder and prior of the Taize Community, an ecumenical monastic community in France, was stabbed to death by a mentally disturbed woman on August 16, 2005. Roger was the son of a Swiss Calvinist minister and his French Protestant wife. Brother Roger wrote many books on prayer and meditation, some with Mother Teresa, and he appealed especially to youth. Brother Alois Brother Alois, né Alois Löser (born June 11, 1954 in Nördlingen, Bavaria, Germany) is the Prior of the Taizé Community who succeeded Brother Roger after the latter's death on August 16, 2005. Leser, a 51-year-old German Catholic priest was chosen eight years ago by Brother Roger, and confirmed by the community, as his successor. |
