It comes standard with both USB and parallel interfaces, and a parallel printer cable comes standard in the box. The MFC-8700 also works with both Windows (Windows(R) 3.1, 3.11, 95/98 and NT(R) Workstation 4.0) and iMac(TM)/G3/G4 platforms.

The MFC-8700 offers two different yield toner cartridges: the TN430 standard toner cartridge with 3,000 page yield (supplied in the box and available as a replacement consumable), or the TN460 high yield toner cartridge with up to 6,000 page yield. The MFC-8700 comes standard with a long life drum unit (DR400), which is rated at up to 20,000 pages. This separate drum/toner system gives the user a cost per copy calculated as low as $0.021 each.

The MFC-8700 is a fast convenience copier at up to 12 copies per minute at 600dpi. It also incorporates features such as reduction and enlargement from 50% to 200%, up to 99 multiple copies, and sorting. It is the ideal solution for a quick copy in lieu of standing in line at a departmental copier.

The MFC-8700 is also a great convenience scanner with up to 1200 x 1200 dpi interpolated resolution An enhanced resolution of a scanning device that is computed using a software algorithm. Also called the "digital resolution," it makes an image appear as if it were scanned at a higher resolution.  (300 x 600 dpi optical). It provides convenient black and white scanning for users who may have had no capability at all. It includes ScanSoft(TM) (formerly Visioneer(R)) PaperPort(R)(a) and ScanSoft(R) TextBridge(R) OCR OCR

A basic description of each networking function is as follows:

-- Internet Fax - The MFC-8700 can be assigned an e-mail address See Internet address.

e-mail address - electronic mail address
, allowing you to send, receive and forward documents on a LAN system, via the Internet to PCs or to other Internet Fax(a) Machines.

-- Network Printing - The NC-8000 network board can be utilized as a print server, providing services for Windows 95/98, NT 4.0 and Unix Systems supporting TCP/IP TCP/IP
