Brooks Brothers to Reopen Liberty Plaza Store in Lower Manhattan.

Brooks Brothers Brooks Brothers is the oldest surviving men's clothier in the United States, founded in 1818. The privately owned company is owned by Retail Brand Alliance, a spinoff of Luxottica, and is headquartered on Madison Avenue in New York City.  has announced that it will reopen its store located at One Liberty Plaza One Liberty Plaza is a skyscraper in lower Manhattan, New York, which resides at the location of the former Singer Building (in 1968, the second tallest building to be demolished). One Liberty Plaza is currently owned and operated by Brookfield Properties.  in lower Manhattan Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of the island of Manhattan, the main island and center of business and government of the City of New York. Lower Manhattan is generally defined as the area delineated on the north by Chambers Street, on the west by the Hudson River (North  on Wednesday, September 11 at noon.

The store has been closed since it was severely damaged during the collapse of the World Trade Center On September 11, 2001, the two main towers of the World Trade Center complex were each hit by aircraft as part of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The south tower (2 WTC) collapsed at 9:59 a.m., less than an hour after being hit, and the north tower (1 WTC) followed at 10:28 a.m.  on September 11, 2001.

The two-level, 16,000 square foot store, which originally opened in 1976, will return to its heritage of dressing Wall Street customers in fine, classic American clothing. The store will offer men's and women's businesswear, furnishings, sportswear and accessories.

Marketing efforts to support the reopening of the store include a month-long station domination advertising campaign at the Wall Street subway stop beginning in late September which heralds "The Return of An American Classic."

Brooks Brothers has a long, distinguished history in lower Manhattan. The company was founded in 1818 by Henry Sands Brooks when he opened his first store on the corner of Catherine and Cherry Street in the area that is now the South Street Seaport The South Street Seaport is a historic area in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located where Fulton Street meets the East River, and adjacent to the Financial District. The Seaport is usually considered a historical district, distinct from the neighboring Financial District. . To accommodate the needs of the growing Wall Street business area, a small sales office was opened in 1932 at One Wall Street in the Irving Trust Company Building, opposite Trinity Church. In 1944, due to the increasing demand and expansion of retail trade in the post- World War II era, a store was opened at 67 Liberty Street in a structure dating from the early 18th century. After the World Trade Center towers were erected in the 1970s, Brooks Brothers moved to the Liberty Plaza location in November 1976.
