 Girl is a personal favorite of mine, and while Mistik Lake isn't quite as compelling, it's a fine YA novel too. Brooks draws on her own Icelandic immigrant background to tell a multi-generational story that takes place in a village in Manitoba called Mistik Lake. The prologue pro·logue also pro·log

Family secrets prevail, with Great-Aunt Gloria hovering in the background, hiding secrets of her own and holding onto Sally's secrets. Understanding, healing, forgiveness--the stuff of the human experience--are the themes that demand attention here.
