Brookline and Galaxy Internet Services to Launch Strix Systems' Wireless Mesh Network for Public Safety and Municipal Communications at "Wire Cutting" Ceremony.

WHAT:

Strix Systems, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking and the equipment provider for Brookline, Mass., and Galaxy Internet Services, is participating in the launch of the city's multi-use first-responder Wi-Fi network at a wire cutting event in Brookline on Wednesday, July 18, 2007.

The network is one of the first combined public safety and commercial networks in the U.S. to incorporate the high-power 4.9 GHz frequency band for public safety services. Brookline and Galaxy will provide the combined services to a population of over 57,000.

First responders such as police and fire departments will be able to exchange information with local, state, and federal agencies securely via the network. The network will also support traditional internet services and VoIP for municipal and commercial/consumer applications.

A free trial period allows all town residents and visitors to access the wireless network to explore its robust Internet access and border-to-border mobility by selecting the city's 'BrooklineWireless' Wi-Fi SSID (Service Set IDentifier) The name assigned to a wireless Wi-Fi network. All devices must use this same, case-sensitive name to communicate, which is a text string up to 32 bytes long. .
