(ME, VSE - BKM) announced today that it has funded American Digital Communications Inc. of Denver for the construction of up to 20 Specialized Mobile Radio See SMR. ("SMR (Specialized Mobile Radio) The communications services used by police, ambulances, taxicabs, trucks and other delivery vehicles. Throughout the U.S., approximately 3,000 independent operators are licensed by the FCC to offer this service, which provides always-on ") systems on the 220 MHz spectrum. The buildout will include systems in St. Louis, San Antonio, Portland, Ore., Washington, Tampa, Fla., Detroit, and Denver. The total cost of the buildout is estimated at U.S. $1.6 million. Construction is expected to commence immediately and to be completed by Dec. 31, 1995. The SMR systems will use Securicor Communications Ltd. narrowband radio equipment. In American Digital's most recent public filing it stated: "the 220 MHz communications industry presents the most compelling opportunity to a focused provider of traditional, basic SMR services such as paging, two way radio dispatch service, and new services such as data transmission, and telemetry - which increasingly are being demanded by a broad spectrum of users." The buildout will be coordinated by Midland Systems of Kansas City, Mo.
