Brookline Bancorp Makes Announcement.


BROOKLINE Brookline (brk`līn), town (1990 pop. 54,718), Norfolk co., E Mass., a suburb adjacent to Boston; settled 1630s, set off from Boston and inc. 1705. , Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 1998--Brookline Bancorp Inc. (the "Company"), the holding company for Brookline Savings Bank savings bank, financial institution that, until recently, performed only the following functions: receiving savings deposits of individuals, investing them, and providing a modest return to its depositors in the form of interest. , announced today that its subscription offering closed on March 3, 1998. The maximum number of shares offered was 13,674,650 at $10.00 per share. Because orders were received from depositors with subscription rights in excess of this amount, the Company will allocate To reserve a resource such as memory or disk. See memory allocation.  shares among the eligible subscribers in the offering. No precise information is available at this time regarding the total shares to be allocated to each subscriber.

Brookline Bancorp Inc. anticipates receiving regulatory approvals and to commence trading no sooner than the week of March 23, 1998. The company's stock will be listed on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol "BRKL".
