Brookfield to spin off homebuilding group.


Brookfield Properties Brookfield Properties Corporation TSX: BPO NYSE: BPO is a Toronto-based North American commercial real estate company. Brookfield Asset Management owns 50% of its outstanding common shares.  Corporation announced this morning that it has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission to proceed with the spin-out of its U.S. homebuilding subsidiary, Brookfield Homes Corporation.

As previously announced, Brookfield Homes will be spun out effective Jan. 6, and will trade separately from Brookfield Properties Corporation on the New York Stock Exchange New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)

Trading of the common shares of Brookfield Properties on the Toronto Stock Exchange Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE)

Canada's largest stock exchange, trading approximately 1,200 company stocks and 33 options.
 is being conducted on an ex-dividend basis reflecting the distribution.

Brookfield expects that trading in the common shares of Brookfield Properties Corporation on the New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 Stock Ex change will continue to be conducted on a "due bill" basis up to and including Jan. 6. In addition, "when issued" trading on the New York Stock Exchange in the common shares of each of Brookfield Properties Corporation and Brookfield Homes Corporation will begin on Jan. 3 and Brookfield expects it will continue up to and including until Jan. 6. Brookfield expects that regular trading in the common shares of each of Brookfield Properties Corporation and Brookfield Homes Corporation will begin on Jan. 7.

The common shares of Brookfield Homes will not be listed for trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The record date for both the Toronto Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange was Jan. 2.
