In the ancient time brooches were known as fibulae. At that time brooches were usually manufactured from various soft metals and coated with gemstones. Brooches have been made in different sizes and a wide variety of shapes throughout history and with the expansion of wealth and the liking of low-cost jewelry, the brooch became a popular type of personal decoration. A brooch may also be used for the purpose of keeping the hair up. Necktie scarves along with brooches add a touch of glamour to any dress.

A brooch is a fashion accessory that was extremely popular several centuries ago and only recently lost its luster an appeal among fashion-savvy circles. Basically, it is a decorative piece of jewelry which you can attach to your clothing like a pin.

The face is usually made out of different kinds of metal and the design ranges from bejeweled to all sorts of patterns and engraved images. Its size ranges from extremely large that it can take up a quarter of one?s torso to as small as a ring. Nowadays though, you will rarely see anybody wearing anything extravagantly big as its use has already greatly declined.

There are many reasons that can be attributed to the fall from grace for brooches in the fashion world. One is probably because of the very classical look of the accessory. Today, people find more appeal in modern looking accessories as the time for classics and medieval looks have slowly taken a back seat. Another possible reason is that its use was bound to decline anyway as it had already peaked somewhere around the eighteenth or nineteenth century. As most fashion experts would say, trends come and go, so for brooch, now is the time that it is going away.

Regardless of its sudden decline, its stature is still not lost. Brooch is still an elegant piece and people have found different ways of using it. One of the more popular uses is as a decorative ornament at home. Especially for the very large pieces created back in the day, home owners have found them to look very antique or vintage which make them a great addition to spice up their house.

Other uses today have been a result of some people looking for fashionable and creative ways of incorporating brooch into their outfits. For men, some have used small brooches instead of cufflinks due to their more intricate designs and all. Sometimes they are also placed on the lapels of jackets to add extra touch to the outfit.

For women, these are still used to fasten different parts of their gowns such as a scarf or other accessories. It is an effective ways of fastening different accessories but without diminishing style or elegance.

Although brooches have seen a huge decline in use over recent years, it is still quite prominent just not in the same way that it used be. Either way, it is still a big past of the fashion world?s history and is very much appreciated even today.

Brooch fashion accessories are certainly not a thing of the past, cool butterfly brooches are very fashionable nowadays with all age groups. The gorgeous jewelry brooches are becoming the fashion accessory that suits any woman and can enhance her look by a thousand times!
