Broken bones gave us our motivation.Byline: By Andy Coleman MIDLAND rockers The Motive have had two lucky breaks this year. The first was when they won a contest to appear at a major festival in Hyde Park Hyde Park, park, London, England Hyde Park, 615 acres (249 hectares) in Westminster borough, London, England. Once the manor of Hyde, a part of the old Westminster Abbey property, it became a deer park under Henry VIII. alongside bands like Depeche Mode, Strokes and Goldfrapp. The second was when lead singer Add Jones fell down the stairs Adv. 1. down the stairs - on a floor below; "the tenants live downstairs" downstairs, on a lower floor, below and broke his ankle. "It didn't seem lucky at the time but it turned out to be a godsend god·send n. Something wanted or needed that comes or happens unexpectedly. [Alteration of Middle English goddes sand, God's message : goddes, genitive of God, God ," claims 33-year-old bassist Paul Bradley from Sutton Coldfield. "We were off the road for six to eight weeks so we spent the time writing lots of new material. "We now have a repertoire of three albums worth of songs and we've had interest from a number of record companies." That interest was heightened when The Motive won a radio contest to appear at the O2 Festival in Hyde Park. Explains Paul: "Radio Xfm asked listeners to vote for which band should take part and we won. We were gobsmacked gobsmacked Adjective Brit, Austral & NZ slang astonished and astounded Adj. 1. gobsmacked - utterly astounded to get it and it was a great day. "We played a 40 minute set which coincided with the first half of the England vs Ecuador World Cup match which was being shown on a big screen. There was quite a good crowd watching us but with just a couple of songs to go we saw loads of people heading for our stage. "It turned out they'd been watching the football - but then they were really disappointed that they only caught the end of our set. "We watched the second half backstage, eating burgers with Depeche Mode!" Paul and Tipton-born Add are joined in The Motive by lead guitarist Rob Bamber from Kinver and drummer Chris Green from Acocks Green. Paul says: "We're lining up some gigs in London and we're looking forward to playing the Hare and Hounds hare and hounds n.
