Brodwin stays centered in one-stop shop: Jahn Brodwin, partner Schonbruan McCann Group.

If his coworkers see Jahn Brodwin at his computer playing a game of Spider solitaire, they know there won't be a shred of facetiousness in his voice when he explains that he's having a busy day.

"I do it to wipe my mind, one of the biggest challenges of the job is to compartmentalize everything," Brodwin said. "Sometimes you just have to take a break or a quick walk around the block before you move onto the next task."

Such is the challenge when you are an executive at a firm that provides as diverse a set of real estate services as the Schonbraun McCann Group. The company has gained prominence in the real estate industry for providing everything from real estate financing, due diligence, strategic advisory, and tax and accounting services.

Many of those areas of consultancy are considered specialties in themselves and it is the rare firm that is proficient in them all. Being multifaceted, of course, pays rich rewards by allowing the firm to kindle continuous business with some of the largest real estate firms.

"The interesting part, unlike brokers or regular consultants our relationship is very deep with our clients, it's year round not just transaction oriented," Brodwin said.

"They'll call on us to help them with due diligence or give them strategic advice and then when we're done with that it's time to do taxes and audit work, we provide so many services that at any given time a large client may be tapping us for some thing."

Last year, Brodwin was appointed the president of the New Jersey based firm's new Manhattan office at Grand Central Square. Quick to point out that a client's full utilization of the company's capabilities becomes increasingly uninhibited the more services it uses, Brodwin seems to be committed to the same mindset of growth in his new position of leadership that has helped the company expand from 40 people when he joined the firm in 1998 to roughly 220 today.

"We try to become part of our clients' family, understanding their long and short term objectives," he said. "All of our growth is organic, because the more that clients use us, the more they want to continue to use for increasingly diverse assignments. Now that we have a New York office I think we'll be at 250 people within the next few months."

Even for firms storied for their real estate prowess, the Schonbraun McCann Group has become an important consultant.

The firm was an advisor to SL Green and the Gale Company in the recent recapitalization of a portfolio of commercial properties in New Jersey in which Mack-Call purchased the Gale Company and its holdings.

The Schonbraun McCann Group's close ties with all helped facilitate the transaction.

"That's another important thing that I think our clients rely on us for," Brodwin said.

"We have such a host of clients because of all the services we provide that we are able to help clients connect on transactions where they might be able to work together."
