Brochtrup goes full-time in prime time.

"I'm so proud they've entrusted me to portray a realistic, multidimensional, positive role," says out actor Bill Brochtrup, referring to John Irvin, NYPD Blue's gay office assistant. In February, Brochtrup was made an official precinct regular by creator Steven Bochco and other members of Blue's top brass.

The actor's shift from temp to permanent work makes for endless stow possibilities. For one thing, Brochtrup's contract includes the standard NYPD Blue nudity clause. Brochtrup maintains he's in no rush to bare his butt, but he's thankful for the first-class gig and the steady paycheck. "I'm thrilled to be back," he says. "It's the best job in television."
