The "new" Broadwing Communications -- a fully consolidated subsidiary of Corvis Corporation (Nasdaq:CORV) -- today announced the launch of three enhancements to its award-winning MultiConnect product.

These first-in-the-industry enhancements provide enterprises with new, simple and cost-effective solutions for disaster-recovery and business continuity, frame relay integration and international private line connectivity. "Once again, Broadwing is setting the standard for data networking," said Rod Woodward, industry analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "Through this product line extension, Broadwing brings compelling networking solutions to both existing and potential customers. Providing distance-insensitive, point-to-multipoint private line solutions, the original MultiConnect was created and launched by Broadwing last year. The product is inherently secure and protocol-agnostic, and can link hundreds of remote locations seamlessly for a flat monthly fee. Since launching MultiConnect, Broadwing has activated activated

that are ultimately easier to support and deliver greater value than other options available on the market today," said Richard Putt, president of national accounts for Broadwing. "We believe this family of innovative products will further position us to win additional business in a market where efficiency and economy remain the rule, not the exception."

MultiConnect ReDirect

Designed on the basis of trends noted in actual customer requests, MultiConnect ReDirect is a powerful disaster-recovery tool. Its introduction comes at a time when enterprises of all shapes and sizes are expanding their investments in outsourced network security services Network Security Services (NSS) is a set of libraries designed to support cross-platform development of security-enabled client and server applications. NSS provides a complete open-source implementation of crypto libraries supporting SSL and S/MIME.  -- a market that is expected to continue to grow at an annual rate of more than 25% through the end of 2004, according to according to

Because Broadwing prices MultiConnect at a flat rate, customers bypass the domestic T1 per-mile charges (or U.S. backhaul costs) that are typically associated with connecting host locations to an international carrier's gateway point of presence.

FrameConnect

FrameConnect offers another robust business-continuity option. A multi-homed, flat-rate, pre-packaged WAN solution, FrameConnect fills a void in the industry by giving corporations -- especially those with multiple data centers or a regional host architecture -- the simplicity of MultiConnect plus the flexibility and built-in redundancy of frame relay.

Customers can purchase a bundled solution -- from one of six pre-configured standards -- with two host locations, plus the appropriate number of remote locations (14, 28 or 50 sites).

The remotes can have either 512Kbps or 1,536Kbps ports, each with a standard of two PVCs (Permanent Virtual Circuits See PVC.

), which terminate respectively at the two host locations, providing "always-on" connectivity to those locations. This always-on connectivity allows customers to load-balance their data traffic between the two host locations in real time, and automatically withstand the loss of either of the two hosts, in the event of a catastrophic event.

Additional Connect Family products are currently in development and scheduled for launch in 2004.
