(Dynamic Synchronous Transfer Mode Dynamic synchronous Transfer Mode , or DTM for short, is a networking technology, standardized by ETSI. It is designed to provide a guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for the emerging class of e.g. streaming video services, but can be used for packet based services as well. ) footprint in North America. This is the company's second expansion this year to meet growing demand, driven in large part by the 2005-2006 seasons of major sports associations and leagues. Broadwing began 2005 with five initial sites and expanded to 20 in April.

"Last year Broadwing perceived a market need in the media space and leveraged our all-optical network asset to capitalize on that opportunity," said Del Bothof, vice president and general manager of Broadwing's media services group. "The strong positive response from the broadcast industry is validation of our decision to enter the media market. We are continuing to invest in success-based expansion to accommodate the growing needs of our customers."

Broadwing's media services platform utilizes DTM technology to enable high-speed transport of real-time, contribution-quality video and other file formats for Broadwing's broadcast and other media services customers. Enabled by Broadwing's one-of-a-kind, all-optical network, the Media Services Network is exceptionally reliable, has an extremely low latency, and provides 100% Quality of Service (QoS), a designation that ensures no network oversubscription Oversubscription

 and optimal availability.

Broadwing has strategic alliances in place with media industry leaders Intelsat, HTN and Net Insight. The partnership with Intelsat enables both companies to extend their reach by sharing Broadwing's nationwide terrestrial network and Intelsat's worldwide satellite capabilities. This is beneficial to customers because it makes contribution-quality services more accessible from more locations. To further expand footprint and capabilities, Broadwing and Intelsat are exploring synergistic interconnections with other service providers who employ DTM infrastructures around the world.

"Broadwing's media capabilities have been instrumental in signing new customers who demand the highest network performance standards," said John Romm, president of media services at Intelsat.

Net Insight's Nimbra platform helps Broadwing deliver 100% QoS. "We continue to be impressed by the way Broadwing has architected and deployed its DTM network using our technology to provide media services previously unavailable in North America," said Tomas Duffy, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "This is the best solution for live, high-quality broadcast transmissions because the quality of service provided by our technology, paired with Broadwing's unique network, offers broadcast users uniquely flexible and reliable service."
