Shulman, a 23-year industry veteran and former AT&T and Teleport Communications Group Teleport Communications Group (TCG) was the first Competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) in the U.S. First formed in 1985, it competed with the existing telephone companies to provide dial tone and related services in the largest U.S. markets.  (TCG (Trusted Computing Group, Beaverton, OR, www.trustedcomputinggroup.org) The successor to the Trusted Computer Platform Alliance (TCPA), announced in 2003 by founding members AMD, HP, IBM, Intel and Microsoft. ) executive, joined the company today in the new position of chief technology officer. Shulman, 45, of Livingston, N.J., based at Broadview Networks' New York headquarters, also will become an investor in the company.

A recognized communications technology expert, Shulman has designed and implemented systems and networks to provide data, Internet, voice and video services. His background includes hands-on experience with digital subscriber line See DSL.

In his previous position, as local network technology vice president of AT&T, Shulman was responsible for network architecture, technology deployment, standards, evolution plans, and vendor and equipment selection to foster the company's entry into the local services market.

Prior to the merger of TCG into AT&T in 1998, he was chief technology officer of TCG, one of the nation's largest facilities-based integrated communications providers. During an 11-year TCG career, Shulman planned and managed the building of networks, systems and network teams to support the introduction of switched data and voice, digital private line and wireless services. Also with TCG, he set up a corporate technology office, paved the way for using xDSL technology, created a bundled voice and high-speed Internet access offering, and designed and established a center for testing advanced technology integration and developing new services.

Before joining TCG, Shulman served as director of systems engineering for MCI (1) (Media Control Interface) A high-level programming interface from Microsoft and IBM for controlling multimedia devices. It provides commands and functions to open, play and close the device.

 International. Prior to that assignment, in positions with Bell Communications Research (Bellcore) and Bell Laboratories, he evaluated new technologies and formulated plans for upgrading the Regional Bell Operating Companies' network switching capabilities.
