Broadlane Introduces Programs to Promote Diversity and Environmental Responsibility.

Business/Health Editors

SAN FRANCISCO--(BW HealthWire)--Oct. 17, 2001

Broadlane Inc., a leader in providing supply chain management services to the healthcare industry, today introduced two new programs that will promote wider access to its contracting activities and strengthen its commitment to offering a wide array of environmentally friendly Environmentally friendly, also referred to as nature friendly, is a term used to refer to goods and services considered to inflict minimal harm on the environment.[1]  products.

The Broadlane Supplier Diversity Supplier Diversity is a business program that encourages the use of previously underutilized minority owned vendors as suppliers. It is not directly correlated with supply chain diversification, although utilizing more vendors may enhance supply chain diversification.  Program will ensure that small businesses, minority-owned businesses and women-owned businesses have the most practical opportunity to participate in Broadlane's contracting for all product categories. The Broadlane Environmentally Responsive Contracting Program will ensure that companies with environmentally friendly products have similar opportunities.

"Both of these initiatives are the result of us working closely with our healthcare provider customers to create programs that ensure that they have access to contracts that are absolutely responsive to both their needs and to society's at large," said Trevor Fetter, Broadlane's chairman and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. .

The Supplier Diversity Program will assist historically disadvantaged businesses by providing easy access to Broadlane's bidding process. Qualified businesses for this program should have certification from the Small Business Administration, National Minority Supplier Development Council, or the National Association of Women Business Owners The National Association of Women's Business Owners (NAWBO) is an organization in the United States founded in 1975 that has the purpose of networking the approximately 10. .

"As an owner of a small business that has had a contract with Broadlane for a number of years, I'm delighted to see that Broadlane is taking these steps to make it easier for others like us to work with them," said Larry Lankard, president of BG Industries Inc. BG Industries, located in Northridge, Calif., makes a wide array of products, such as pressure reduction mattresses, for patients at risk of skin breakdown in various medical situations. "I would encourage such firms to take Broadlane up on their program. In the four years that we've worked with Broadlane, we've consistently felt that we've been given the same access and respect accorded to Broadlane's larger business partner vendors."

Information about vendors that qualify under Broadlane's diversity program and are awarded contracts will soon be posted on Broadlane's Website, www.broadlane.com. This will allow Broadlane's customers to review relevant information about specific products. For vendors that qualify but have not been awarded contracts, Broadlane will post contact information and provide a link to online company catalogs, if available.

The Environmentally Responsible Contracting Program will help Broadlane's customers identify products that minimize adverse environmental effects.

Many products that are heavily used in healthcare have environmentally friendly alternatives or are recyclable and Broadlane's program will ensure access to the bidding process for companies that produce such products. Broadlane makes every effort to identify "green" products on behalf of its customers and contracting decisions are customer driven. The ultimate choice of product utilization rests with Broadlane's customers.
